HD or 4K, 24 to 60 fps, Stabilization, Zoom and Macro: What to Choose
Start with HD at 30 fps. Use 4K only when you need it, and 60 fps for fast motion. Stabilization (Off, Standard, Enhanced) smooths shake but Enhanced crops more. The rear camera offers 0.5x, 1x, 2x and 3x stops plus macro.
The problem
More isn’t always better with two cameras. 4K at 60 fps means huge files, a hot phone, a shorter battery and sometimes dropped frames. But HD at 24 fps can look choppy for sports. And handheld vlogging makes shaky footage unless stabilization is right. You don’t want to learn this after a bad take.
The settings
- Resolution: HD (1920×1080) or 4K (3840×2160).
- Frame rate: 24, 30 or 60 fps.
- Video stabilization: Off, Standard (default) or Enhanced, under Settings → Recording. Enhanced is steadier but crops the frame more. Both cameras use the same mode so the front and rear stay in sync.
- Rear zoom: stops at 0.5x, 1x, 2x and 3x.
- Rear camera mode: Standard or Macro for close subjects.
- Countdown: off, 3, 5 or 10 seconds.
What to choose
| Situation | Suggestion |
|---|---|
| Everyday vlog or reaction | HD, 30 fps, Standard stabilization |
| Walking or handheld | HD or 4K, 30 fps, Enhanced |
| Fast sport or action | HD, 60 fps |
| Cinematic or archive | 4K, 24 or 30 fps, on a stand |
| Close-up detail | Macro mode, steady support |
Notes
- Heat and storage. Two cameras at 4K plus effects is demanding. If the phone gets hot, step down to HD 30.
- Preview vs. saved video. The preview may look slightly wider than the file because multi-camera preview can’t always apply stabilization.
- Lock it in first. All of these are fixed once a take begins.
- Save as a preset. See presets.
FAQ
Which quality should I use? HD at 30 fps is the sensible default. 4K and 60 fps use much more storage, battery and heat, especially with two cameras.
What does Enhanced stabilization do? It’s steadier than Standard but crops the frame more. It maps to the cinematic mode where the cameras support it.
Why is my preview wider than the saved video? On many devices the preview can’t use the same stabilization as the recording, so the saved file may be slightly tighter than the preview.
Can I change quality mid-recording? No. Settings lock once recording starts.
