How to Blur Your Background, Use a Virtual Background, or Stand Inside the Scene (Pro)
Front-camera background effects (Pro) are Blur, Virtual background and Cutout. They use on-device person segmentation, with a Fast or Quality setting. The Cutout layout removes your background and places you full width over the rear scene.
The problem
You’re recording in a messy room, a busy cafe or a corner you’d rather not show, and the front camera shows all of it. Or you want to look like you’re in the scene you’re filming rather than a bubble over it. Outside an editor, most phone cameras don’t let you change what’s behind you.
What DualCam offers (Pro)
For the front camera:
- Blur: softens the background, with an adjustable intensity.
- Virtual: replaces it with an image from the built-in library or one of your own, with optional softening.
- Cutout: removes the background completely.
In a PiP layout, a cutout lets the rear feed show through behind you. The Cutout overlay layout goes further: you’re cut out and placed full width, bottom-aligned, over the rear camera’s scene, so you stand inside the setting.
All of this runs on the phone using person segmentation.
Steps
- Choose a layout. For the standing-in-the-scene look, pick Cutout.
- Open Front Background in the settings and choose Blur, Virtual or Cutout.
- Adjust blur strength, or pick a background.
- Choose Fast or Quality segmentation.
- Check the preview before recording.
Getting a clean result
- Light yourself evenly, and avoid a background close in colour to your clothes.
- Stay in frame and fairly still. Edge quality drops when you move fast or sit at the edge.
- Use Quality for a locked-off shot, Fast when you’re moving or recording in 4K.
- Watch battery and heat. Segmentation plus two cameras is heavy, especially in 4K.
Without Pro
Free users can still frame themselves in a bubble. Opening a Pro-built setup on a free plan falls back to the standard layout.
