I Failed the Rules of the Road Exam: How to Retake It and Pass at 90%

TL;DR

Most failures come from not knowing which rules you are weak on. Use exam mode to reproduce test conditions, read the topic heatmap, reread the rules with the lowest accuracy and let spaced repetition bring back every miss.

The pain

You studied for weeks and still came up short of 90%. A re-test costs time and money, and you don’t know what to fix. “Study harder” isn’t a plan.

Find the real gap

  1. Take an exam-mode run with no feedback until the end.
  2. Open the topic heatmap. Which topics are weak?
  3. Open per-rule accuracy and write down the rules at the bottom.
  4. Read those rules in the rule text, with International and Inland side by side.

Fix the gap

  • Drill only the weak topic until you’re consistent.
  • Filter to previously missed and due for review.
  • Use the diagram for lights and shapes questions.

Stop the usual traps

  • Memorising positions: choices are reordered where the wording allows.
  • Studying one zone only.
  • Believing a keyword match is a citation. Read the rule’s actual wording.

Before test day

Run a full timed exam, check you’re above the line in both zones, and keep the readiness dial in view.

FAQ

Can I see which topics I am weakest in? Yes. A topic heatmap and per-rule accuracy show it.

Is there a guarantee? No. It is an independent study aid, not an official publication. It will not replace understanding the rules.
