Radio Stream Won't Play? How to Fix a Dead or Silent Station in RadioX

TL;DR

Check that the URL is a direct audio stream or playlist, not a web page. Re-run validation, look for HTTP errors, try the playlist (.pls/.m3u) version, and test in a browser. Station availability depends on the server, which RadioX doesn't control.

The problem

You tap a station and get an error or silence. It could be the address, the network, the server or the format, and from the outside they all look the same.

Check in this order

  1. Is it a stream URL? Open it in Safari. If you see a web page, it’s the wrong link. A stream starts playing or downloads an audio/playlist file.
  2. Re-validate. Edit the station and check the Validation section. An HTTP error (404, 403, 5xx) means the server refused or is down.
  3. Try the playlist link. If a .pls or .m3u exists, import that instead of the raw address; it may point to a working server.
  4. Other network? Some servers block certain regions or mobile networks. Try Wi-Fi vs cellular.
  5. Check the station’s site for a new URL or an HTTPS version.
  6. Try again later. Small stations go offline.

What the validation messages mean

  • Playable audio detected: good.
  • Server responded but couldn’t confirm content type: may still play; you can Save Anyway.
  • HTML/web page detected: wrong link.
  • HTTP error: the server returned a failure status.
  • Timeout (15 seconds): server too slow or unreachable.

For alarms

An alarm station that fails to start plays the fallback tone, so you’ll know. Choose a more dependable station for mornings.

Report a bug

Email [email protected] with the station URL (if you’re comfortable sharing it) and what you saw.

FAQ

What does “could not confirm the content type” mean? The server answered but did not say what kind of file it is. The stream may still work, so you can save it and try.

Why does validation flag an HTML page? The address is a web page, not a stream. Find the actual stream link on the station’s site.

The station worked yesterday. Streams move or go offline. Check the station’s website for a new address.

Will RadioX find another stream for me? No. It plays what you add and does not include a directory.
