How to Make a Time-Lapse of a Person's Whole Life From Your Photo Library
Life Reel scans your library, groups photos by face, orders one person from youngest to oldest, aligns the eyes and cross-dissolves the photos into a single clip. Nothing leaves your phone.
Somewhere in your camera roll there is a version of someone’s childhood that nobody has seen in order. Life Reel puts it in order.
How it works
- Scan. Give Life Reel access to your photos. One pass groups the same face across years into a person.
- Pick a person. Choose who you want a reel of.
- Build. Life Reel puts that person’s photos from youngest to oldest and aligns them on the eyes, so the face holds still while the years move. Photos cross-dissolve into one clip.
- Export and keep or send it.
What affects how good it looks
- Number of photos. More photos across more years gives a smoother reel. You can set how many photos someone needs before they are featured.
- Face grouping is a guess. If two people are merged or one person is split, fix it. See correcting people.
- Order. Choose age guess or capture date.
- Black and white. Toggle it on if the colour changes between decades look jarring.
Before you grant access

Privacy
Photos, faces and the face data derived from them stay on the device. There’s no account and nothing is uploaded.
FAQ
Do I have to choose the photos myself? No. Life Reel scans your library, groups the same face across years and builds the reel itself.
Does it work offline? Yes. Turn on airplane mode and everything still works.
Can I try it before scanning my library? Yes. A bundled ten-frame sample reel plays on the Home tab before you grant Photos access, clearly labelled as sample art.
