ServerPanel iCloud Sync: What Syncs Between Devices and What You Must Re-enter
With Premium and iCloud signed in, ServerPanel syncs non-sensitive data (server names, hosts, ports, groups, snippets and similar) through your private iCloud database. Passwords and private keys stay in each device's Keychain and are never synced, so re-enter them on a new device. Sync starts on the next launch after you buy.
The problem
You set up ten servers on your iPhone, then open the app on an iPad or a new phone and have to type every host, port and username again. But you also don’t want your passwords and private keys travelling through a cloud.
What syncs
With Premium and an iCloud account signed in, ServerPanel stores its data in your private iCloud database so devices stay in step. This covers the non-sensitive records: servers (name, host, port, username, group, icon and colour), snippets, alert history and similar app data.
What never syncs
Passwords, passphrases and private keys live in the iOS Keychain with a “this device only” setting. They are not part of the synced data and don’t go into iCloud Keychain.
Practically, on a second device you’ll see your servers, and then:
- Open a server and enter its password, or choose a key.
- Add your SSH keys to that device’s key library once.
It’s a small chore in exchange for credentials that never leave the device they were typed on.
Also keep in mind
- Login scripts and snippets are synced data. Don’t put secrets in them. See login scripts.
- Sync needs Premium and iCloud. Without either, data stays local.
- A purchase takes effect on the next launch. The app checks your Premium status at start-up, so restart it after buying.
- If you stop being Premium, your data stays on the device; syncing stops.
Setting up a second device
- Sign in to the same Apple ID and iCloud on both devices.
- Install ServerPanel and make sure Premium is active (use Restore Purchases).
- Launch it, wait for your servers to appear, then enter credentials.
FAQ
Do my passwords and keys sync? No. They stay in the Keychain on each device and never leave it.
So what do I do on a new iPad? Your server list appears via sync, but you need to enter each server’s password or key (or pick it from that device’s key library).
When does sync turn on? It requires Premium and an iCloud account. After you buy, it activates the next time you launch the app.
Is it end-to-end encrypted? Data is stored in your private iCloud database. Only non-sensitive fields sync, and secrets never do.
