How to Take, Annotate and Pin a Screenshot on Mac With One Shortcut

TL;DR

⌥⌘S freezes the screen and snaps to hovered windows. Annotate with rectangles, arrows, text, numbered badges, mosaic and blur, press Return to copy, or pin the image above all other apps.

Capture

⌥⌘S freezes the screen. Drag a selection, or hover a window to snap to it. The magnifier reads the exact colour under the pointer in HEX or RGB.

Mark up

Rectangle, ellipse, line, arrow, pencil, marker, text, numbered badges, mosaic and blur. Undo and redo anything, even strokes hidden under a mosaic.

Finish

Return copies it. Or save a PNG.

A pinned image floats above every other app. Drag it, scroll to resize, hold a modifier and scroll to fade it. A screenshot pins over the pixels it came from, so the screen looks frozen. ⌥⌘F pins the image on the clipboard.

Hide private info

Use mosaic or blur on anything sensitive before you share.
