GeoCam Privacy Policy

Last updated: 2026-09-28

Overview

GeoCam is a camera that stamps time, place and weather onto your photos and videos. It does not require an account, and your photos never leave your device unless you save, share, export or back them up yourself. This policy explains what the app accesses, what is sent off the device and why, and the choices you have.

Data We Collect

GeoCam asks for these iOS permissions, each used only for the purpose shown:

  • Camera and Microphone: to take photos and record video (with sound) inside the app.
  • Location: to show place name, coordinates, altitude, bearing and GPS accuracy on your captures, to look up the current weather, and to place photos on the map. The app still works if you decline; location fields are simply left out.
  • Photos: to save your watermarked photos and videos to your library, and to add watermarks to photos you pick for batch stamping.
  • Tracking (App Tracking Transparency): asked only in the free version, to let our ad provider show more relevant ads. Saying no does not limit any feature.

We do not collect your name, contact details or account information. There is no GeoCam account.

How We Use Data

  • Location, weather, time and device details are rendered into the watermark on the photo or video you take, and saved as metadata with that capture.
  • Shooting bearing and location are written into the photo’s EXIF data, as with any GPS camera.
  • The gallery, map, projects and field reports are built on your device from your own captures.

Data Storage

  • Photos and videos are stored in the app’s storage on your device and, when you save them, in your Photos library.
  • Capture metadata (location, weather, project, notes), your custom templates and sticker images are stored on your device. If iCloud is turned on for your Apple Account, this data syncs between your devices through your own private iCloud database. We cannot access it.
  • If you turn on Auto Backup (Settings → Field Tools), a copy of each capture is saved to the folder you choose in the Files app, which may be in your iCloud Drive.
  • We do not store your photos, videos or location on our servers.

Services That Receive Data

GeoCam contacts these services to work. Each gets only what it needs:

  • Apple WeatherKit: your approximate location, to fetch current weather conditions.
  • Apple Maps (MapKit and geocoding): coordinates, to look up place names and draw map tiles and mini-maps.
  • Network time check: to verify capture timestamps, the app reads the time from apple.com or cloudflare.com. No personal data is sent.
  • Apple App Store (StoreKit): to process GeoCam Pro purchases and restore them. We never see your payment details.
  • Google AdMob (free version only): to show ads. AdMob may collect device identifiers (including the advertising identifier if you allow tracking), IP address, general location derived from it, and how you interact with ads. In the EU, UK and Switzerland you are asked for consent first, and you can change it anytime in Settings. Google’s use of this data is described at https://policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites. GeoCam Pro removes ads and AdMob entirely.
  • Our feedback service (rate.mzjpg.com): only if you send feedback from the app. It receives your message, the email address you optionally enter, any screenshots you attach, and technical details (device model, iOS version, app version, language, region and time zone), so we can reply and fix problems. The same service also tells the app when it may show a rating prompt; that request carries no personal data.

Sharing

We do not sell your data. Your photos, videos and exports (PDF, KML, KMZ, GeoJSON, CSV) leave the app only when you share, save or export them yourself.

Your Choices

  • Change or revoke Camera, Microphone, Location, Photos and Tracking permissions at any time in iOS Settings.
  • Change ad consent at any time from GeoCam’s Settings (where required in your region), or remove ads with GeoCam Pro.
  • Turn off Auto Backup in Settings → Field Tools, or iCloud sync in your Apple Account settings.
  • Delete photos in the app at any time; deleting the app removes everything stored in it on your device.
  • To have feedback you sent deleted, email us at the address below.

Children’s Privacy

GeoCam is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect personal information from children.
