How to Layer Music, Voice and Sound Effects in One Ringtone (Pro)

TL;DR

Free projects have one track. Pro adds more lanes: a main clip, an overlay, voice and effects, each with its own trim, volume, fade, speed and equalizer. The mixed result is rendered into one M4A, still under the length limits.

The problem

One sound is often not enough: a spoken “it’s your boss” over a two-second guitar riff, a ping before a melody, a laugh with a drum hit. Free-form mixing normally means a desktop audio editor.

How tracks work

Each sound sits in its own lane on the timeline. You can drag a clip left and right, trim it and change its settings without touching the others. The track types are main clip, overlay, voice and effect.

Steps (Pro)

  1. Add the first sound as usual.
  2. Tap Add track. Choose a source: file, video, recording, text to speech or a built-in sound effect.
  3. Place the new clip where it should start.
  4. Balance: lower the music under the voice with Volume; add fades so the layers blend.
  5. Play it all, then export.

Free vs Pro

Free allows a single track: everything in the core workflow on one lane. Extra lanes, the sound-effects library, text to speech, speed, the equalizer and high-quality export need Pro.

Tips

  • Keep voices louder than backing music.
  • Fade the music out as the voice ends.
  • Short is better: under 30 seconds works with the system share sheet on iOS 26.
