How to Turn the Sound of a Video into a Ringtone on iPhone

TL;DR

In the Library or when adding a track, choose Extract audio from Video and pick a clip from Photos. The video is converted to audio on the device and added to your library, ready to trim into a ringtone.

The problem

The sound you want, a baby’s laugh, a line from a clip, a concert moment, is trapped inside a video. Screen-recording it captures notifications and system sounds, and dragging video into a desktop editor means a computer.

Steps

  1. In Library tap + and choose Extract audio from Video, or add a track in the editor and choose the same option.
  2. Pick the video from Photos.
  3. Wait while it says “Video files are being converted to audio”.
  4. Add the extracted audio to a project and Trim the part you want.
  5. Export and set it up as your ringtone.

Tips

  • Shorter source videos finish faster.
  • Quiet speech is easier to hear if you raise the clip volume. Ringtones are often heard in noisy places.
  • Add a fade-out so the line doesn’t cut off abruptly.
  • Delete library items you don’t need; projects using them will show the track as missing.

Rights

Use only videos and sounds you’re allowed to reuse.

FAQ

Is the video uploaded? No. The audio is extracted on your device.

Where does the audio go? Into your Library, where you can preview, share or delete it, and add it to any project.

Can I extract from a very long video? Yes, but then trim to the part you want; ringtones must be under 40 seconds.

Does it work with videos from other apps? Videos in your Photos library work. Others can be saved there first.
