How to Resume Where You Left Off and Use Listening History

TL;DR

Podcast progress is saved per episode and shown under Continue Listening. History keeps recent radio, podcasts and Apple Music, with category filters. Settings include Resume after interruption and Play last listened on launch.

The problem

A phone call cuts your podcast. You pick up three days later and can’t find the episode, let alone the minute you stopped at. Or you only ever listen to the same station and wish the app would just start it.

What’s remembered

  • Podcast episodes: position, so Continue Listening on Listen Now puts you back.
  • History: recent stations, episodes and Apple Music songs, filterable by category.
  • Last played: for the launch option.

Settings that help

In Settings → Playback:

  • Resume after interruption: continues after calls and other audio.
  • Play last listened on launch: starts what you had on last.

Tips

  • Use history to rediscover a station you played once.
  • Clear items you don’t want kept from the history view.
  • Remember that history is local; a new device starts blank.
