How to Organize PDF Extractions as Projects and Re-Run Them Later

TL;DR

Each imported PDF is saved as a project with its Markdown, images and original. Reopen it any time, change settings and run extraction again, rename, search, share the original or the Markdown, or delete it to free space.

The problem

You extract one report, tweak the OCR settings, then another, and a week later you can’t find the first result or remember which settings gave a clean one. Redoing a 100-page scan from scratch is costly.

What a project is

When you import a PDF, PDFExtract makes a project: the PDF, the generated Markdown, the extracted images, and the details of the run (pages, images, status). You can leave and come back.

Everyday actions

  • Open a project to see Markdown (rendered or source), Images and the original PDF.
  • Run extraction again after changing languages, resolution, output style or table settings.
  • Rename it (from the list or detail).
  • Search by name.
  • Switch the list layout between list and grid in the Files view.
  • Share Original PDF or Share Markdown from the list’s context menu.
  • Delete projects you’re finished with.

Tips

  • Name projects after the source (“2026-Q3 report”) before sharing the ZIP, because the archive takes the project name.
  • After upgrading to Pro, re-run old projects to read the pages that were locked and rebuild tables.
  • Deleting the app removes its projects, so export anything you need first.

FAQ

Can I re-run with new settings? Yes. Open the project and choose Run extraction again from the menu.

Can I search projects? Yes, by name from the project list.
