How to Browse Your Geotagged Photos on a Map
GeoCam's home screen shows a footprint map of everywhere you've shot and a carousel of recent photos. The gallery can be filtered by location (grouped by city) and, for field work, by project.
The problem
“Where was that picture taken?” is the question you actually ask a few weeks later, and a plain thumbnail grid can’t answer it. After a trip or a round of site visits, you have hundreds of pictures of walls, signs and views, and the only way to find one is to scroll and hope you recognise it.
Date is a poor handle too. You rarely remember the date; you remember the place.
What GeoCam does
Because every photo was shot with its location, GeoCam can organise by place:
- A footprint map on the home screen shows everywhere you’ve taken photos.
- A carousel of your latest shots sits above it.
- A location filter in the gallery groups photos by city.
- Projects (for field work) let you file shots into a named project from the camera and filter by it later.
- The photo viewer works like Photos: zoom out of the thumbnail, swipe through your shots, and swipe up for details like location, time and weather.
How to find a photo
- Open the home screen and look at the footprint map. Spot the area you were in.
- Or open the gallery and use the location filter to pick the city.
- For work, filter by project.
- Open the photo and swipe up for the full record.
Where it helps most
- Trips: go back through a day by where you were, rather than by timestamp.
- Site visits: open everything from a specific location.
- Repeat visits: compare what a place looked like on different dates.
Limits
The map and grouping depend on the photo having a location, which means GPS had to be available when you shot. Photos taken with no location can’t be placed.
